Finca Piedra Grande is a beautiful farm located on the Apaneca-Ilamatepeq mountain range in El Salvador Central America. Situated in the Atiquizaya province, department of Ahuachapán, it is spread over 37 hectares and is located at an elevation of 1,200 meters above sea level. The farm’s name, Las Ranas, is derived from the wild frogs that thrive in the lagoon formed by the extinct crater of an ancient volcano at the top of the mountain.
Piedra Grande has a complete processing mill, including wet mill, drying facilities, and dry milling, and coffee cupping and quality control laboratory. The infrastructure of Piedra Grande is situated in the middle of the farm on one hectare of land. It includes living quarters for the employees of the farm and mill, as well as accommodations for partial workers of both.
The plantation has an average of 5,000 coffee trees per hectare and an age of about 15 years. There are about 110 shade trees per hectare, which are a mix of native and Inga trees. The plantation produces an average of 900 bags of 69 kilograms of strictly hard bourbon beans each year, with 200 bags of strictly hard Pacamara beans, although this can vary depending on weather patterns and other factors.
Visitors to Piedra Grande can enjoy the stunning views of the Apaneca-Ilamatepeq mountain range and the lagoon formed by the extinct volcano’s crater. The farm’s remote location offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The farm’s staff is dedicated to producing high-quality coffee beans while ensuring sustainable farming practices are employed to protect the environment.
